The Laramie headlights are plug and play, with minor config changes via AlfaOBD. That special coating prevents the light from blinding oncoming traffic on our cars. The halogen reflector headlights on my 20 Big Horn are horrible (my fog lights seem to put out more light) so I’m upgrading to either the LED reflectors that come on Laramie models or the LED projectors that come on Limited models. Note, using projector HID's on an un-equipped reflector car is illegal and blinds oncoming drivers. The reflector still puts out ample light, but some light is lost when directed above the "line" - where as in the projector that light is harnessed and focused. When you say light is less from projectors, you are facing them oncoming, thus all the light is on the ground, not in your face.Īsk a dealer or a neighbor if you can try projector HID's at night. Given that the HIDs are an option on the vehicle I highly doubt that someone will be able to distinguish between OEM and aftermarket. However, halogen and, more recently, LED systems are also available. Most projector headlights use HID Xenon bulbs. However, going with a 4300k HID kit will result in a very OEM look and feel as a result of the OE halogen projectors. A projector headlight utilizes a single bulb in place of the two bulbs used in a traditional dual-beam design (one for a high beam and one for a low beam). Having driven a RDX (projectors) and my TL (reflector) down the same un-lit rural road (drive the road constantly), the RDX appears to produce more useful light (ex: seeing deer on the side of the road). No aftermarket HID conversion kit is considered to be street legal. If you look at the projector picture note how even the right and leftmost sides have ample light. It almost illuminates everything everything under the beam. Would the low cut-off on the projectors, while lighting up the road, throw out less light over-all, maybe giving the impression they are not as bright.Īnd what about the bulbs powering projectors? Are there HID projectors? standard Halogen bulbs, etc?The projectors are very nice to drive with. What about the view from behind the wheel, driving a car with projectors vs HID, etc.? AcuraZine Member Help, Support & Suggestions Area Halogen Headlights - Projectors are not the same.not much of a clean cut off.īelow is a 5000k bulb in a HID projector designed for HIDs. This helps bring out the extra fuzzyness that the cut off now has compaired to the halogen bulb. Just in case you have a hard time with the 5000k photoīelow is a 3000k h11 bulb I also sell. I am sure you have seen other people running plug and play HID and have been blinded, well you are now doing the same thing. Well the blurr that is around that cut off is now glare that blinds oncoming traffic. The reply I get is yea, so what I never get flashed it not as bad as plug and play in non projectors. Also they cause against the other drivers regardless what others might want to think. You dont really get extra distance with LED lights in the halogen housings as they dont reject that well.
So halogen projectors focus the light in a spot up front, where you need it most. If you want to go with LED lights that is totally okay as long as you have a projector housing. This is because the focus point of a halogen projector is different from HID projectors. An HID bulb puts out 3-4 times as much light as halogens. If you look at the cut off area around the step you can now see that it is blurred. Now below is one of my 5000k H11 HID bulbs Notice it has a nice clean cut off right around the step? (when I say step _/-) Here are a few photos using a mazda 3 halogen projector.įirst one below is a stock halogen h11 bulb I've been asked quite a few times "can I just swap my halogen bulbs for HID bulbs in my projector headlights?"īecause a halogen projector is ment for halogen bulbs the focus is thrown off when HID bulbs are swapped in to the housing.
